Outdoor activities

From The Rim Club, you can access any number of spectacular trails for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, or ATV driving. Granite Dells Road provides quick entry to several loop trails that take you through towering, first-growth Ponderosa Pines and past rock formations that stand 20 stories tall! Views of the Stewart Mountains abound. Your dogs will enjoy the range of sights and scents as they experience the surrounding Tonto National Forest, while you breathe in our crisp, clean mountain air.
Various local hiking groups venture into the other mountain ranges that surround Payson, with three levels of hiking speeds available to accommodate all interested walkers. Whether it’s the Mazatzals to the south or up on the Mogollon Rim to north, there is a hike for every season.
Fishing of all kinds is available within an easy 45-minute drive. Roosevelt Lake is renowned for its trophy largemouth bass fishing, and is host to multiple fishing contests throughout the year. Smallmouth bass, crappie and channel catfish can be found as well. Atop the Mogollon Rim, numerous small quiet lakes offer anglers and fly fishermen opportunities for Rainbow and Brown trout, with record size fish caught frequently.
Hunting opportunities abound throughout northern Arizona. You can sign up to hunt elk, deer, bear, and mountain lion. Experienced local guides can help find trophy-quality wildlife.
